We went to work, to school, to church, gave birth and buried bodies like everybody else. And yet sometimes it feels like we’re stuck inside a spinning wheel. Grew up on/fed up with the dirty dreams of politics. Grew up on/fed up with the wasted love within our lungs. With the shapes of war surrounding us and which way to go that’s kept from us. Haven’t we been here before? Was it 50 years, or more? Searching for some common, grounding metaphor. Will we ever understand what is truly valuable? Our stomachs full, we’ll throw the rest away and salt the fertile earth. Pay them not to grow. Shoot them in the streets and at their schools. Keep them in the dark. Rob them of their rights. Divided/Surviving.
